Posted in Projects on 5 October, 2016

Velas Resorts will open its newest resort Grand Velas Los Cabos on Mexico’s Baja Peninsula in late 2016. The US$150 million resort is the fifth property designed and created by Velas Resorts; a family owned and operated company with over 20 years of tradition in Mexican hospitality.

A luxury all-inclusive beachfront property, Grand Velas Los Cabos is positioned on the Baja coast with spectacular views of the Sea of Cortes throughout the resort. Located between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, Grand Velas Los Cabos will feature 306 ocean view suites, all over 110 sq m with private plunge pools and terraces. Los Cabos is famed for its rugged mountain backdrop, unspoiled beaches and an incredible variety of animal and sea life, including some of the world’s best whale watching opportunities.

Resort highlights include duplex wellness suites with juice bars, a gallery of contemporary art showcasing the art, fashion and culture of Mexico to guests, a Leading Spa of the World, three infinity pools (including an adults-only pool for complete serenity) and a fabulous selection of world class restaurants.

Grand Velas Los Cabos takes advantage of its proximity to the renowned wine region of Baja California. In addition to a Grand Velas-labelled wine, the resort will feature wine pairings at dinner, wines selected from the best vineyards in Ensenada, and regular wine tastings.

With a staff ratio of three to one, Grand Velas Los Cabos, like all the Velas Resorts, puts excellent service at the forefront of every guest experience. On arrival in the impressive, three stories high, open air grand entrance, guests experience the warm Mexican hospitality that comes from Velas Resorts’ 20 years in the business. From a 24-hour personalised butler concierge and in-suite service to the dedicated family activities host, guests are guaranteed a holiday to remember.

Grand Velas Los Cabos’ variety of gourmet restaurants, quality of the ingredients, creativity, presentation, and foodie experiences allow guests to explore a fusion of flavours. All restaurants and bars are designed to take full advantage of the beautiful views and have indoor and open-air seating.

The resort’s signature restaurant, Cocina de Autor, will have a renowned chef at the helm and is set to compete with the world’s best restaurants for creative and original gourmet experiences. Other on-property fine dining options include Frida, offering Mexican fine dining; Piaf, which serves gourmet French specialties; and Lucca, with a menu of traditional Italian cuisine. For guests seeking a casual dining experience, the all-day dining restaurant Azul offers panoramic beach vistas and a relaxing, open-air, yet air-conditioned, environment in which to indulge in international cuisine. Bistro focuses on fresh seafood.

Be it time for pre-dinner sundowners or late night cocktails, Grand Velas Los Cabos features three bars, all with outdoor terraces. Highlights include the casually elegant Koi Bar with a dramatic centrepiece marble bar serving fabulous cocktails to be enjoyed on the stylish and comfortable terrace.  Guests can also expect a cigar room complete with walk-in humidor.

Stylish suites vary in size from 110 to 320 sq m, while all feature ocean views, private terrace with sitting area and plunge pool, separate living area with sofa, king or two queen beds, expansive bathroom with Jacuzzis. Daily turndown, personal concierge service, daily stocked premium mini-bar with refreshments and snacks, Nespresso Coffee Maker, high-definition flat screen with digital cable TV, L’Occitane bath amenities, goose down pillows and comforters, and a pillow menu are also available in-suite. A highlight of the suite is the full bottle of artisanal Mezcal, made exclusively for the resort. In the multi-bedroom Governor and Presidential Suites, a bottle of the finest wine from Ensenda also greets guests.

All six two-level Wellness Suites are double height with lofted ceilings and feature a plethora of fitness and wellness amenities, such as Life Fitness recline bike, spa concierge, Vitamin C sprinkler, crudités mini-bar, aromatherapy kit, in-suite massage and more. All Wellness Suites face the spa with the second level being exclusive for the fitness amenities, inclusive of a juice bar with a wide selection of juices and healthy beverages.

Interior design is contemporary Mexican with touches inspired by traditional Mexican architecture, a signature of Grand Velas Resorts. Ricardo Elias, principal of Elias and Elias Architects in Guadalajara, who designed the highly acclaimed Grand Velas Resorts in Riviera Maya and Riviera Nayarit, returned once again to Grand Velas as the architectural designer for the Los Cabos location. The resort’s interior design was created by architects Roberto Elias and Ernesto Vela and interior designer Melin Castro.

The 1800 sq m Spa at Grand Velas Los Cabos will have 20 treatment rooms, some with an ocean view. Guests will enjoy authentic and innovative treatments using the latest technology combined with natural products, traditional in the Mexican culture. Included in treatments of 50 minutes or more, hydrotherapy facilities feature saunas, plunge pools, vitality pools, whirlpools, herbal steam rooms with colour-therapy, clay and ice rooms and experience showers. A beauty salon, spa boutique, Life Fitness centre with personal trainers, plus yoga, Pilates and meditation are also available for guests.

For families travelling with children, Grand Velas’ Kids’ Club offers a safe, fun and creative environment to explore interactive activities such as football, treasure hunting and cooking classes.  The resort’s Teens’ Club is a contemporary space where teens from 13-18 years old can enjoy their own mini-holiday. The Teens’ Club will feature an extensive game room complete with an X-Box Kinect, pool table, air hockey, ping pong, foosball, karaoke set with vintage dance floor and more.
