Discover this year’s emerging trends at Surface Design Show 2018
Surface Design Show 2018 is the perfect place to discover the latest trends in surface design for the built environment. Taking place from the 6 – 8 February at London’s Business Design Centre, exhibitors will showcase the best in exterior and interior surface design giving visiting architects, designers and specifiers the chance to explore the latest trends for 2018.
Trending Terrazzo
Terrazzo is a continuing trend that can be found within a number of exhibitors at Surface Design Show. Originating from Italy in the 16th Century terrazzo comprises of a combination of marble chippings set in cement.
Lithos Design (stand 638) are an Italian producer of coverings, wall partitions and natural stone flooring. In collaboration with the designer Raffaello Galiotto they offer an extensive range of modular architectural solutions. Their collection Opus has a number of variations including Allegro which has wonderful terrazzo qualities, available in several types of marble, with yellow, sky blue, red and white being the dominating colours.
Grestec Tiles (stand 596) also offer an extensive range of ceramic, glass and stone floor and wall tiles. Their marble effect range Cocoon infuses a classic mix of marble and terrazzo effect porcelain, available in a variety of shades including white, grey and a deep black terrazzo.
BluePrint Ceramics (stand 202) will be showcasing their newest range Poetry which is influenced by terrazzo. Subtle shades from grey through to white promotes the concept of historic Italian craftsmanship through this beautiful stoneware collection. Terrazzo is brilliantly versatile due to its almost limitless material options and colours.
The Bold & the Beautiful
Dramatic patterned tiles will be prominent at the 2018 Show, with stunning designs creating distinctive focal points. Whether it is an eye-grabbing wall section or a whole floor, Surface Design Show unveils a spectacular selection of patterned tiles.
Tiles 4 Architects (stand 116) import ceramic and porcelain tiles from across the world, ranging from small mosaic pieces to large formats. Their show stopping designs include an array of colourful patterned designs including: camouflage, feather, netting and leaf print.
Tile of Spain (stand 304) is the voice of the Spanish tile industry, renowned worldwide for an inspiring blend of aesthetic and technical innovation, Spanish tiles draw on a rich heritage of skill and creativity, while remaining at the cutting edge of design.
Grestec Tiles yet again are contributors to this trend, as they create a number of different patterned tiles which allow the user to create their own unique interiors.
Naturally Creative
Inspiration is often taken from nature and then given a twist, with natural materials treated with vibrant colours or walls inspired by our natural surroundings.
Innerspace Cheshire (stand 406) present real Icelandic moss from Freund to create spectacular feature walls. The moss requires no watering, sunlight or maintenance and has the added benefit of fantastic acoustic properties.
LOCO DESIGN (stand 370) specialise in advanced surface treatment and crafted material application. Celebrating the very best of technology and crafting skills, their use of natural fabrics including leather creates stunning ornamented surfaces for interior and furniture application.
V4 Flooring (stand 200) present Panneau a range of striking, natural wall panels. The ultra-contemporary panels are available in a range of colours and patterns bringing the natural beauty and texture of real wood to easy to install panels.
Surface Design Show will also host an extensive programme of events, lectures and installations many of which will give insight into the materials, colours and designs that will make their mark in 2018. Trend consultant and design writer Sally Angharad will be presenting Surface Spotlight Trends: The Latest Material Directions with Highlights for Transport and Residential, on The Main Stage on Wed 7 Feb at 15.45. Whilst Hannah Malein from Colour Hive will present Four Key Colour Stories for Spring Summer 2019: Disrupt, Drift, Hush and Worth at 13.45 on Thurs 8 Feb.
Surface Spotlight Live, which debuted in 2016, is an exciting opportunity for architects and designers to discover the newest and best materials in the industry. The 2018 display will be collectively curated by Sally Angharad, Treniq (in collaboration with SCIN Gallery) and Colour Hive.
