AccorHotels to open its largest Mercure Hotel in Dubai
French hotel chain AccorHotels will open its largest-ever Mercure hotel this spring in Dubai’s vibrant Barsha Heights neighbourhood.
The hotel, the Mercure Dubai Barsha Heights Hotel Suites & Apartments, will be located in an unspecified ‘former Sheikh Zayed Road landmark’ that is currently undergoing the first phase of a two-phase comprehensive renovation. Once opened, it will have 1,015 units encompassing a mix of hotel suites and one- and two-bedroom apartments.
“We are delighted … to further elevate the Mercure brand within the United Arab Emirates with the largest Mercure hotel in our global network,” said Olivier Granet, managing director and chief operating officer of AccorHotels Middle East and Africa. “The project presents AccorHotels with an unrivalled opportunity to further expand our portfolio at an iconic business and leisure destination while cementing our presence across the growing mid-market segment within the region.”
AccorHotels’ Mercure is a midscale hotel brand whose properties boast distinct, locally inspired designs and experiences. In addition to the aforementioned hotel suites and apartments, its Barsha Heights property will boast an all-day dining restaurant with a shisha lounge, a health club, a spa and swimming pool, and approximately 4,300 square feet of meeting space.
The first phase of renovations at the property will encompass 120 hotel rooms. The second phase, scheduled for completion by the end of 2018, will focus on the remaining guest rooms and additional facilities, all of which will be updated to meet AccorHotels’ international standards. At the end of the project, AccorHotels said, the property will be elevated from a four-star ranking to a five-star ranking.
“Through this distinguished rebranding we aim to revitalise an iconic property within the Emirate through the exacting and quality of Mercure’s brand standards,” Granet concluded. “This is reflective of AccorHotels’ commitment to expanding our presence across each market segment in order to accommodate guests’ expectations. With the Mercure Dubai Barsha Heights Hotel Suites & Apartments, we hope to further bridge this gap within the hospitality market especially as the UAE works towards its goal of attracting 20 million visitors by 2020.”
