A Magnificent Re-Design in the Maldives
Hailed as Designer of the Decade in the world’s media, Velaa Private Island is delighted to have Patricia Urquiola lead the redesign of Velaa Private Island’s expansive four-bedroom residence. Introducing her brilliance and creativity for the first time to the Maldives within one of Velaa’s ultra-luxe private residences – Patricia has reconceived the interiors from start to finish, personalising each room to adapt to a variety of needs and aesthetics.
With her work on display in New York’s MoMa, London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, and Paris’ Musée des Arts decoratifs – Patricia Urquiola is an acclaimed artist and designer. With an outward focus on the cerulean ocean, this collaboration features Patricia’s very own Moroso furniture collection paired with minimalist, earthy textiles and natural woods that play off the perception of the indoor and outdoor. A natural colour palette and crafted lighting both serve to highlight the design’s soothing and serene nature, custom made pieces include a weaved leather headboard, bedside lamps as well as a custom sliding panel tv cabinet by Mabeo.
Based in Milan, in 2001 Patricia Urquiola opened her own studio which encapsulated product design, architecture, and installation projects and has worked with some of the world’s most luxurious brands. Patricia has also won several international prizes and awards including the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes (Gold Medal in Fine Arts) awarded by the Spanish Government, Order of Isabella the Catholic, awarded by His Majesty The King of Spain Juan Carlos.
Wrapped within one of the world’s most secluded islands, The Private Residences at Velaa Private Island offer exceptional facilities and service.
