Astro supports local arts community and raise fund for the homeless

In support of the local arts community and to fundraise for homeless charity Streets2Homes, Astro recently organised and held the ‘Light the Way’ event at the Gibberd Gallery in Harlow, Essex.

A group of eighteen art and design students from Harlow College were involved in the project, each expressing the concept of ‘home’ using an Astro Eclipse plaster wall light as a blank canvas. Astro Co-founders John Fearon and James Bassant then shortlisted the artwork down to a final group of ten inspiring pieces which were showcased on a wall display at the Gibberd Gallery.

A final winner and two runners up were awarded for their fantastic skill and expression of ‘home’. The event was a great success, with all ten lamps sold in a silent auction, raising over £1,300 for Streets2Homes and their work in supporting homeless individuals in the community.

John Fearon and James Bassant, Co-founders at Astro said: “Students are working at a high standard and are learning how to use plaster as a new material. It’s good to get their feedback on it being quite a different material to work on. Some of the stories behind their designs are really moving.

“We think the students really embraced the brief. We were amazed when we were judging them, the thought and the care they put into the brief and conveying that into a single image was amazing.”
