Burj Al Arab unveils 10,000 square-metre terrace

The Burj Al Arab Jumeriah has unveiled the highly anticipated Burj Al Arab Terrace, a 10,000 square-metre outdoor luxury leisure facility that is stretched out 100 metres into the sea, which is also home to Scape Restaurant & Bar.

Said to be a world-first in marine and off-site construction, the Burj Al Arab Terrace was developed by Finnish marine construction experts Admares with Sigge being responsible for the architecture. The structure was made in Finland before being transported in eight separate pieces to Dubai. “The idea was to build the unit and secure it with piles as apposed to building reclaiming the land by using fill material to extend the land into the sea,” says Pekka Mäki, CEO of Sigge Architects. “It was a big challenge to come up with a new design but we wanted to ensure that we honoured the Burj Al Arab and we have designed the terrace around the existing structure.”

The terrace, which has been designed on three levels, is complete with two pools ­– one 612 square-metre freshwater pool and an 828 square-metre saltwater infinity pool, which melts into the horizon to create the mirage of a continuous ebb of water. 24 cabanas and eight royal cabanas are all fully air-conditioned and overlook Palm Jumeriah and the ever-changing Dubai skyline. “As soon as guests come out of the hotel, they directly see directly to the sea,” adds Mäki. In total, 10 million mosaic tiles in shades of azure and gold lines in the pools, while 1,000 tonnes of white sand creates the impressive man-made beach. “As the world’s most luxurious hotel, Burj Al Arab continuously evolves and re-invents our guest experience through state-of-the-art facilities,” said Anthony McHale, General Manager, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.
