CAYO Resort & Spa to open in Northern Crete this summer
A picturesque and pristine town on the northern coast of Crete, Elounda offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in Greece, and is home to a host of ultra-luxe hotels. But there’s a newbie in town – and it’s spectacular.
Sophisticated and stylish, luxurious and chic, CAYO Exclusive Resort & Spa excels in the art of the perfect stay. Opening June 2020, Elounda’s most stylish design hotel offers stunning surroundings, gastronomic brilliance, a mind-body balancing spa, and unparalleled views of an iridescent Spinalonga Islet. Perched serenely close to the water’s edge overlooking Elounda Bay, with its own spot on Plaka’s pebble beach, CAYO raises the bar and sets its own standard; this design destination is a style seeker’s dream.
Interiors are alluring and beautiful – conceptualised by the famous Italian art director and designer Gian Paolo Venier, who draws from a calming and neutral colored palette. The eclectic décor, furnishings and interiors here both surprise and delight. The 74 rooms, suites and villas will all boast incredible sea views and abundant sunlight, naturally integrating into their surroundings, with private swimming pools for moments of complete relaxation.
Eco-minded and thoughtfully conceived, the accommodation saves substantial amounts of electrical energy by using a state-of-the-art heat recovery system. The heat produced by the air conditioning units is used for warming the guest’s rooms and main building water. Biodegradable plastic bottles contain a seed that guests can plant, in an effort to restore and respect the natural surroundings.
Gastronomes will be delighted to discover that at CAYO, dining will revolve around the freshest seasonal produce, locally sourced from selected eco-friendly farms and the resort’s organic garden. Menus have been crafted by the influential Chef Lefteris Lazarou – the first Greek chef to be awarded with one Michelin Star, inviting guests to discover international flavors and tasty traditional Greek and Cretan cuisine.
The wellbeing concept is based upon thoughtful consideration of the spiritual, cultural and natural environment, inviting guests to disconnect from their every-day life and experience the integration of body, mind and spirit. Here, ancient rituals are combined with cutting-edge techniques, while new frontiers in wellness are explored. From yoga and Pilates to detox therapies and mental wellbeing, the fitness center will take guests on a personalised fitness journey and a trainer will curate a 360° program of indoor & outdoor warm-ups, vigorous workout sessions, and stretching.
Set beside the charming and scenic fishing village of Plaka, CAYO overlooks the famous islet of Spinalonga and the resort’s pebbled beach. Guests can either start their day with a refreshing morning swim, or for the more adventurous, there’s a selection of water sports from the beach including kayaking, wake-boarding and scuba diving. Just a few steps from CAYO is Plaka’s harbor for boat trips heading to nearby islands including the hidden coves of Kolokytha.
