Chenot Palace Weggis, Switzerland
Constructed between autumn 2018 and spring 2020, Chenot Palace Weggis is a flagship project for the Chenot Group that extends over 20,000 sqm and includes the addition of a new timber guest room block, a state-of-the-art medical spa and wellness area as well as the renovation of existing hotel buildings.
Located in one of the most beautiful and historic places in Switzerland, overlooking Lake Lucerne and framed by the Alps, Chenot Palace Weggis was created for human well-being. Designed by Swiss Architect Davide Macullo, the hotel combines traditional Swiss design with contemporary architectural techniques to seamlessly coexist within its surroundings, evoking the beauty and tranquillity of the alpine location. The true beauty of a built place is proportional to the positive influence it has on people. When we wonder why we feel so good in a place, so ‘at home’, it is because its dimensions, proportions and tensions have been designed for us. The first in the Chenot portfolio to comprise dedicated rooms with sleeping technology, zen gardens and a contemporary art gallery, Chenot Palace Weggis takes guests on a journey of the senses.
Spanning 20,000 square metres, Chenot Palace Weggis reveals the careful renovation of the former Park Hotel Weggis, complemented by the new state-of-the-art medical spa. A specialist in wellness architecture, Macullo’s design concept aims to harmonise the old with the new. Natural and locally sourced materials have been used throughout the modern aesthetics while traditional swiss building techniques have been implemented to preserve the heritage and character of the original building.
Overlooking Lake Lucerne and the peaks of Mount Rigi and Mount Pilatus, each of the 97 luxury rooms and suites boast secluded balconies or terraces and offer privacy as well as space to admire the picturesque setting. Set across 5,000 square metres, the spa at Chenot Palace Weggis is a full-service integrated health wellness retreat embodying a connection to nature where colours, shapes and space transcend openness and neutrality. Using the finest natural stone from the nearby Alps, the 20-metre indoor pool reflects the view of Lake Lucerne and mountain backdrop, to recreate the sensation of swimming in a freshwater lake. The hand carved ceilings throughout the spa and communal areas have been carefully designed evoking scenes of forests, roots, water and fire, making guests feel part of a sculpture while emulating the Chenot philosophy of vitality. The manipulation of natural light enhances guests’ transformational journey by encouraging a body and mind balance, and this combined with the neutral colour scheme ensures every angle of the palace reflects an ambiance of life and energy.
Davide Macullo, founder of award-winning Davide Macullo Architects, comments, “Chenot Palace Weggis is a vision that has become reality. It is a journey into the senses and for the senses. An organism that speaks directly to our most desired perceptions. Designed to put us at ease and allow us to enter into intimacy with our being, it embraces the philosophy of Henri Chenot, which leads to the ideal of a healthy life, both physical and mental.”
Dr. George Gaitanos, Scientific Director and Chief Operating Officer of Chenot Group, adds: “We are thrilled to launch our flagship property in Weggis, Switzerland. With the help of David Macullo and his specialist team, we have brought the Chenot vision to life, where the design emulates our philosophy of wellbeing as well as reflect the purity and tranquillity of the destination.”
Drawing on a further connection to the location, Chenot Palace Weggis will house a collection of art work that includes the mastery of young contemporary Swiss artists with works ranging from photography to painting, drawing and sculptures, curated by the young gallerist Daniele Agostini and a selection of contemporary Turkish artists, curated by Çağla Sarac. Symbolic of the marriage between two cultures committed to enhancing cultural values through art, these displays will be available for all guests to admire and buy. In addition, a series of sketches by Davide Macullo representing his personal vision and research for the perfect space for guests to feel at ease will be showcased, along with his design of contemporary colourful rugs, created with motifs that emphasise the joy of everyday life.
