DREAM HOLLYWOOD TAPS ROCKWELL GROUP TO DESIGN NARRATIVE FOR MARQUEE WEST COAST LOCATION
Dream Hotel Group has tapped world renowned Rockwell Group, known for its diverse range of projects from hotels, to restaurants, to set design, to create a vibrant and imaginative destination, Dream Hollywood. Paying homage to mid-century modern architecture unique to Los Angeles, Rockwell Group will capture the Dream brand’s heritage to transform Hollywood’s beloved neighbourhood into an immersive playground debuting in summer 2016.
Setting a new benchmark for hospitality in Los Angeles, Dream Hollywood will anchor the extensive revitalization of Hollywood with a marquee property featuring 179 guest rooms and suites; five dining and nightlife venues both within and adjacent to the hotel; and a sweeping 11,000 sq. foot rooftop with unparalleled views of the city skyline. Dream Hollywood draws upon the brand’s heritage design philosophy, blending the surreal and contemporary, as well as Los Angeles’ iconic mid-century modern architecture to create a truly exceptional experience.
“Since we first conceived the Dream Hotels brand, we worked to craft a sensory experience for guests,” said Vikram Chatwal, Vice Chairman of Dream Hotel Group. “In this instance, we partnered with the widely recognized and award winning Rockwell Group to create a lifestyle hotel with exceptional design and a stimulating and immersive environment. We are energized by working with a design team that complements our creativity and eagerness to deliver a never-before-seen product. With Dream Hollywood, we are reinventing the hospitality experience in Hollywood with an inimitable guest and community scene.”
Similar to California hillside residences, the hotel will feature strong, seamless visual connections between the indoors and outdoors. The lobby will be an airy, light-filled retreat with a double-height space that will lead to a public landscaped pedestrian alley. A garden path subtly guides guests from the entrance to the check-in and concierge area and at night, lighting effects will mimic the shadows cast by the sun hitting trees and will be projected on the pathway.
The concept of an experience that blurs the lines between indoors and outdoors is further emphasized by garden-inspired elements throughout the hotel, including strips of grass set between stone tile flooring and a trellis-inspired divider wall interspersed with candles. As guests step off the elevators into the guestroom corridors, they will encounter a playful hint of the outdoors with halls defined by a trellis and louvers in the ceiling lit to suggest daylight streaming through the wooden slats.
Drawing from this inspiration, guest rooms will feature two color schemes; one inspired by sky, water, and white houses against a desert backdrop and the second palette takes a stance from the inside out and draws upon the warmer hues of a sunset. The guestrooms have a modern sense of openness with freestanding, patinated bronze shelving units that separate room areas and grand bathroom interiors. A custom wallcovering over the bed depicts an iconic image of the Los Angeles landscape, such as the freeway at night, in an abstracted form.
Dream Hollywood will offer guests the ultimate experience with The Presidential Suite, a spacious, glass-walled urban retreat inspired by the clean simplicity of mid-century architecture. Upon entering the suite through an oversized pivoting wood feature door, guests are greeted with breathtaking views of Los Angeles with beautifully crafted floor-to-ceiling windows. Complete with a dining bar area, glass enclosed daybed for lounging, a living room that can be transformed into a private screening room and a private landscaped terrace, The Presidential Suite epitomizes luxury and excellence.
“Hollywood is the perfect location for a Dream Hotel,” said David Rockwell, founder and President, Rockwell Group. “Inspired by many of the amazing surrounding houses we strove to capture the vibrant outdoor culture that is so unique to Los Angeles.”
The 11,000 SF rooftop will be revolutionary to the Hollywood scene offering both public and private entrances that create a skyline destination for high-energy dancing, lounging and hand-crafted cocktails and award-winning dining. A nightlife venue will be enclosed with a retractable roof designed to maximize views of the iconic Hollywood sign and the surrounding landscape, the pool area will offer intimate and more communal seating groupings, including raised cabanas with a retractable top and sides, two-person chaises, a long daybed, and a firepit where guests can gather and a secret garden will serve as the inspiration for a rooftop café.
Located in the heart of Hollywood on the buzzing corner of Selma Ave. and N. Cahuenga Blvd., Dream Hollywood will be flanked by a pedestrian alleyway linking the hotel and adjacent restaurant and nightlife venues operated by a world-class hospitality partner, transforming nearly half a city block into a communal gathering space ideal for those of the creative and social mind.
