Dreams Come True at the Sleep Event

Top leaders and influencers will gather at London’s Business Design Centre on 24-25 November for Sleep 2015…

For ten years running Sleep, Europe’s most important annual event focusing exclusively on hotel architecture, interior design and development, has been an invaluable source of inspiration that rewards attendees with insights into the industry’s future. Top leaders and influencers will gather at London’s Business Design Centre on 24-25 November to discover new immersive experiences, ingenious installations, a thought-provoking and free-to-attend conference, and exhibitors carefully selected for diversity, innovation and quality.

Sleep Set and Sleep Bar

Imagination has been unleashed for this year’s hugely popular Sleep Set competition and Sleep Bar (in association with Sleeper) through a concept conceived to push boundaries and explore new ideas. Entitled ‘Wonder Tale’, magical intrigue is assured as celebrated industry names design and build guestrooms and a bar inspired by fairytales and folklore from around the world.

Each team in the Sleep Set challenge has woven its own story which, like a fairytale, touches on the human condition while playing with perceptions and disrupting the norm so as to engage and nurture guests in new ways. Participants have been confirmed as:

 

Sleep Set Judges

The Sleep Sets will be judged by three leading figures from the world of hotel architecture and design:

  • Javier Hortal from Mandarin Oriental
  • Katy Ghahremani of MAKE Architects
  • Erik Nissen Johansen from Stylt Trampoli

The winning team will be announced at a networking reception on the first evening of Sleep.

Sleep Bar

Also illustrating the power of storytelling through fairytales is Conran + Partners, the designers of this year’s hotspot for networking and socialising, the Sleep Bar. “We are very excited to be part of Sleep this year. The topic of ‘Wonder Tale’ is truly inspiring” says Tina Norden, Project Director at Conran + Partners.

Design Gallery

Original ideas, technologies, products and materials featured at Sleep 2015 will also be a draw for hospitality trendsetters. In the Design Gallery, designers will explore the convergence between the physical and the experiential in a range of settings. Specially designed spaces created by the likes of Pringle Brandon Perkins + Will and Il Prisma will suggest ways in which hotel, office and residential spaces could be merged as technology enables the growing trend for ‘mobile’ lifestyles. These studios with be joined by Jane Lawrence of the Manser Practice during a conference session exploring the emotional and practical considerations of creating these spaces in hotels.

Snoozebox Competition

Having enjoyed outstanding success when it first exhibited at Sleep last year, Snoozebox, the unique and adaptable portable hotel, will return in 2015 with a competition. Guided by the theme Flexibility, contenders are designing a concept with adjustable functions, materials and technologies that facilitate rest, work and play in a pop-up guestroom. Judges from Snoozebox, Tangerine (the designers of the first Snoozebox) and Sleep will determine the winning entry which will then be constructed with products supplied by sponsor Egger and displayed onsite during the event.

Wonder Tale Student Competition

New for this year is a contest in which spatial design students in Europe may supply via Pinterest their original concept images that express the ‘Wonder Tale’ theme. Entries will be judged by the Sleep Set contenders, with the winner announced at the show.

Exhibition

The Exhibition is carefully orchestrated each year with an enticing array of new companies mixed with perennial favourites, larger manufacturers and bespoke artisans.

  • 2015 brings an enhanced emphasis upon surfaces with leading European and UK manufacturers such as Cosentino, Compac and Johnson Tiles unveiling their newest launches of floor, wall, and furniture surfacing to greet visitors as they arrive in the main exhibition hall.
  • Elsewhere, Dare Studio will debut collections of beautifully crafted timber furnishings and contemporary lighting, while Timorous Beasties will display new series of hand and digitally printed wallpapers and fabrics as well as vinyl wallcoverings, concrete tiles, laces and granites.
  • First time exhibitors include Spanish lighting consultancy Alve and Danish lighting company Light Years, as well as Cheshire-based Clarke & Clarke presenting its recently launched contract textile range, and Loloey showcasing designs from its Daniel Libeskind rug collection.

Conference

With fresh, thought-provoking insights from international trailblazers into the hospitality industry of tomorrow, the free-to-attend Sleep Conference is a magnet for professionals seeking inspiration. Celebrity keynote addresses will set the tone for panel discussions about hot topics such as the conversion and convergence of spaces, the impact of branding and social media on design, and the presentation of the Sleep Set design teams’ imaginative concepts to the judges. The popular Development Round Tables will return this year, giving delegates the chance to talk with the ‘movers and shakers’ of the international hotel industry.

A late night opening until 8pm on Tuesday 24 November, including a cocktail hour from 6-7pm, will give visitors the chance to take in the show and toast The Sleep Set winner announced at 7pm. Register now for your free ticket to Sleep 2015.
