Experimental Group to launch “Il Palazzo Experimental” in June 2019
Following the recent success of Experimental Chalet in Verbier, French hospitality brand Experimental Group will take their renowned savoir-faire across the Alps to Venice, Italy. Its first Italian property, the group fell in love with a 17th century palazzo in the Dorsoduro district and has spent the past year renovating it with designer Dorothée Meilizchon at the helm. Like many of their properties, Il Palazzo Experimental is located in a more residential neighbourhood, known locally as the university district, with a vibrant collection of vintage boutiques, bars and independent shops, retaining a local Venetian vibe. The new hotel is minutes from St. Mark’s Square and close to the city’s art galleries including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and Gallerie dell’Accademia.
The palazzo will house 32 rooms, a restaurant and the group’s signature Experimental cocktail bar. Stationed in between two canals, the front of the hotel will be flanked by a sweeping terrace that will be served by both the restaurant and cocktail bar. At the rear, a second canal with private mooring is accessible through the private garden, a unique offering in the quarter, where breakfast and afternoon cocktails will be served. Dorothée Meilizchon has retained many historic elements of the Venetian architecture and added a contemporary twist with striped colours from the lagoon and materials used in the famous architecture of La Serenissima.
Il Palazzo Experimental is set to combine Experimental Group’s signature ‘Made in France’ hospitality with a modern take on a traditional palazzo hotel.
