IHG opens sustainable hotel in Dubai run on solar power
InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened a hotel in Dubai’s Sustainable City.
The 143-key Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City will be a ‘net zero energy’ building, with 100 per cent of its energy needs to be met by solar power.
The hotel will incorporate sustainable principles within the building’s architecture, interior design, hotel operations, and guest experiences.
High-ranking officials from both IHG and Diamond Developers, the community’s developer, attended the launch event.
Diamond Developer CEO Faris Saeed, said: “We have created a living, breathing, sustainable community that is cost-effective and eco-friendly for over 300 families, and after proving that the concept is feasible and successful, we look forward to commencing phase two of The Sustainable City, with Hotel Indigo representing the first of four buildings that we are adding.”
Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City will have a neighbourhood café and a speciality restaurant, both supplied by fresh produce from the community’s urban farming facilities and biodome greenhouses.
The hotel will also offer indoor and outdoor event venues that are integrated into the landscape of the orchard and urban farms.
Other hotel amenities include a fully equipped gymnasium, an outdoor pool, an outdoor yoga deck, and two treatment rooms with private terraces.
