Meliá Hotels International to open at Iguazu Falls
Meliá Hotels International has announced the imminent opening of the Meliá Iguazu, the only hotel located in the heart of Iguazu National Park in Argentina – one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel boasts panoramic views of the amazing Devil’s Throat Falls, adding a new dimension to tourism in this incredible, unspoilt area.
Meliá will be taking over management of the property on 30 September 2017, and in 2018 it will be renovated to update its facilities to the standards expected of the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand. The hotel offers169 rooms, alongside a vast range of dining options, catering to all tastes: there are also takeaway facilities so guests can dine in the comfort of their room, overlooking the stunning scenery. The property also features two swimming pools, a spa, a gym, multiple children’s play areas, as well as meeting and event rooms. Meliá Iguazu will also endeavour to support the delicate ecosystem of the National Park with a specialised Visitors Centre, designed to educate visitors on the environment of the Iguazu, and protecting it for future generations.
The hotel’s namesake, the Iguazu Falls, are comprised of over 270 waterfalls, which reach heights of 80 metres. The Devil’s Throat waterfall formation marks the border between Argentina and Brazil, attracting visitors from both countries. Meliá Iguazu’s privileged location allows guests to experience this incredible and inaccessible feat of nature in a more intimate, exclusive setting. The waterfalls are the most popular attraction in the Northeast of Argentina, attracting large numbers of tourists.
The rebranding of this hotel as a Meliá is a move by the Spanish hotel company to strengthen its presence in Argentina: it already operates two hotels in Buenos Aires: Meliá Recoleta Plaza and Meliá Buenos Aires. Gabriel Escarrer, Vice President and CEO of the hotel company commented on the announcement: “Iguazu in one of the most important travel destinations in South America is undoubtedly one of the greatest achievements of our international expansion this year. We are very pleased to be able to bring our Spanish hospitality to one of the most beautiful corners of the planet, and to form part of the experience of thousands of travellers, to whom we are committed to offering the highest standards of our Meliá brand.”
