Design-led economy hotel opens in City’s architectural hotspot Ørestad.

ibis Styles Copenhagen Ørestad opened on 6 February, marking the debut of the design-led economy hotel brand both in Denmark and in the Nordics. The 186-room hotel in the central Ørestad business district near to Copenhagen city centre is brings the brand’s creative design to the fore, offering guests a stunning and impactful design which combines urban living with the serenity of nature. It’s one for the dreamers, designers and creatives curious about this design jewel of a city and wanting to find a stylish stay to suit their needs.

Situated within the popular Nest45 project, a DGNB gold multifunctional building, the hotel is nestled within an eye-catching hub of offices and small businesses in Ørestad, a neighbourhood known for its award-winning contemporary urban architecture and easy proximity to both the city and its most prominent green oasis, Amager Fælled.

Creativity designed for nature and urban living
Copenhagen is well known for its design pedigree, its liveability and its green spaces – most Copenhageners live within 300m of a green space – and the connection to nature provided the inspiration for the hotel’s colourful design.

The building was designed by Holscher Nordberg Architects in Copenhagen, with bespoke interior design by Dutch design house Mulderblauw. They bring their signature refined style to the hotel with contemporary rooms and public areas focusing on the intersection of nature and urban city living, with neon quotes, waterfall lighting and graffitied walls set beside nature scenes, illustrated wallpaper and floral carpeting. Room designs in rich greens and blues draw from the surrounding countryside and waterways of the area, while views take in award-winning architecture, nature reserves and the shining spires and domes of the city beyond.

The hotel’s restaurant, Sunder, was also designed in keeping with the urban / nature concept and plays on the word’s meaning in English (‘to divide’) and in Danish (‘healthier’) in its theme.

The creative and eye-catching open lobby, bar and dining area is designed to be a social hub in the area, welcoming in locals as well as guests to work, socialise and relax. With colourful walls and beautiful nature-inspired wallpaper, plus comfortable seating and work spaces, it offers the backdrop to bright and dynamic social media shots, and quiet spaces where creative types can connect and dream up new ideas.

Louise Adolph, part of the Borealis Hotel Group and general manager, ibis Styles Copenhagen Ørestad said: “We are thrilled to be opening ibis Styles Copenhagen in the up-and-coming district of Ørestad and to bring the ibis Styles brand to the Nordics.
