Planning permission granted for Malmaison hotel in York
The Malmaison hotel du Vin group has been given permission to open a hotel in York.
The planning permission was granted by York City Council to undertake a multi-million pound renovation of Yorkshire House on Rougier Street, which will be transformed into a Malmaison-branded hotel.
Work is set to begin later this year and the new hotel will feature 160 bedrooms and suites, the brand’s Chez Mal Bar and Brasserie concept, as well as its meeting and events concept Work + Play.
The news follows significant growth for the company over the past 18 months, including the acquisition of four new properties across the UK and the continued roll-out of a multi-million pound investment programme into its existing portfolio.
Paul Roberts, CEO, said, “We have long been fans of York, where Hotel du Vin continues to be a favourite for both locals and visitors. The vibrancy of the City means that it is also a perfect location for the Malmaison brand. We can’t wait to get started on this exciting opportunity.”
Malmaison Hotel du Vin said the development will generate up to 120 new jobs in the local area.
