Opening Night Debate – Factory-made Housing: is this the solution to building better homes long-term?

In association with New London Architecture (NLA) and Royal Institue of British Architects (RIBA) Factory-made’ homes are being advocated by national and Mayoral policy as one of the key solutions to housing demand, but how are we embedding quality within the design and manufacture process in order to ensure we create homes, and not just meet housing targets? Could championing standardisation over traditional construction in fact lead to greater flexibility and diversity for the homes on offer to Londoners? Would this also give us the opportunity to improve quality, reduce maintenance costs and close the performance gap in the long-term? NLA and RIBA host the Surface Design Show’s Opening Night Debate to consider these issues, following on from the NLA research. Leading housing experts will discuss whether factory-made housing can provide Londoners with better places to live in.
