Back to Black with ‘Woven Noir’ from Alp Design
Alp Design launched two new lights within the ‘Woven Noir’ lighting collection at Design Junction 2018. Alongside the large and small 310 lights was a new table lamp and a multi-form pendant shade, all created by designer Annick Petersen in her Camden studio.
The Woven Noir collection is made from black leather-like cord that is carefully stretched and knotted to create a dramatic geometric web. Rattan has been a popular interiors trend this summer and with this collection Annick has moved the concept on by creating a similar woven effect but with a softer more sophisticated texture.
Also on show at Design Junction were the black and tan versions of the leather 104 stools. These feature angled steel bases in two alternating shapes that can be used individually or configured together into a stunning bench.
Annick’s woven mesh design fits perfectly with the current ‘urban tribal’ trend in interiors. Tactile and textured handmade items such as these, bring welcome warmth and individuality to our digitally-dominated homes.
Annick says her designs are influenced by the London landscape: “I saw some bricks used in a building facade that were creating interesting triangle shapes and they morphed into the woven leather lampshade design. It is always everyday life and the things around me that inspire me.”
