Royal Lancaster London Sales Manager to Trek through Borneo for Charity
On 24 March 2019, Royal Lancaster London’s Business Development Manager, Francesca Casale, will embark on a ten day trek through Borneo to help build a vital school in an isolated village, and also to raise money for some of the most disadvantaged people in the UK.
The trek is organised through the Springboard charity, who help to alleviate poverty by supporting disadvantaged and underprivileged people into sustainable employment within hospitality, leisure and tourism.
This once in a lifetime challenge was advertised to employees at the hotel. Francesca, who is originally from South Africa, and witnessed on a daily basis how many people were (and still are) in need of help, jumped at the opportunity to help those less fortunate.
Francesca says, “I have always had a passion for charity work and I did a lot of it when I lived in South Africa, however, since living in the UK it has been tricky to give time. I feel blessed to help at least 70 people in desperate need of help through fundraising for Springboard.”Francesca will head to Borneo with the chosen colleagues from Royal Lancaster London’s sister hotels; Marta Diaz (Head of Marketing) and Oliver Darrington (Groups & Conventions Manager) from The Landmark London and Tatiana Cucos (Groups Coordinator) from K West Hotel & Spa. Together, they will hike to Mount Kinabalu, experience a nine kilometer canoe journey and trek through the rainforest to reach the remote local community of Kampung Garung, where they will help to build schools using basic tools and lots of heavy manual work.
Francesca is finding fun and creative ways to raise the £6000 needed for the trip. So far, money had been raised through an office tuck shop, raffles, bake sales and a South African themed colleague lunch, as well as directly through Francesca’s online donation page.
