ATKINSON AND KIRBY
After assessing 2020 trends and identifying a gap in the market, leading manufacturer and supplier of premium hardwood flooring, Atkinson & Kirby, has launched a new range of contemporary and easy to install parquet flooring.
After noticing the flooring industry was lacking an easy to install parquet option, Atkinson and Kirby has introduced five innovative herringbone designs with a ‘click fold-down’ profile. This style means the edges of the planks are precision profiled, significantly reducing installation time. The simple ‘fold-down’ fitting mechanism also allows for easy alignment and more secure joints reducing any margin for error and misalignment.
Traditionally, only an experienced fitter would be able to fit parquet flooring, which can be expensive and, in some areas, difficult to find. The DIY aspect of this new collection increases the accessibility of parquet flooring to a larger customer base.
The easy to install range of parquet flooring comes in five unique shades; from the natural oak tones of ‘Siwa Oak’ and ‘Brenin Oak’, to the classic pale coffee tones of ‘Grizdale Oak’.
Atkinson & Kirby has worked closely with trend analysts, Trend Bible, to predict trends for 2020 and influence the innovative new range of flooring. This partnership has enabled Atkinson and Kirby to ensure that all designs, shades and fittings are in keeping with customers’ demands.
Wide planks are expected to become increasingly popular, as they create the illusion of a larger space, making them an ideal choice for both small and large rooms. The 18mm thick planks in Atkinson & Kirby’s new collection come in a range of shades; from the delicate whitewashed tones of ‘Baltra Oak’ and rich honey tones of ‘Aldwych Oak’ to the deep grey hues of ‘Sandur Oak’. These additions are all handcrafted, and hand scraped to give interiors a distinctive charm.
For a timeless look, Atkinson and Kirby has created ten new oak floorings in trend led designs, to compliment the new contemporary collection. ‘Light Timia Oak’ is aimed towards the minimalist low-key trend, whilst the dark colourway of ‘Sheraton Smoked Oak’ celebrates vintage fashion with a modern twist.
Josh Burbidge, Flooring Director at Atkinson & Kirby, comments: “Parquet flooring has had a huge revival as it echoes timeless quality – it also means customers can add some personality and subtle pattern into their home. After noticing a gap in the market, we felt it was important to include inventive parquet flooring that isn’t time-consuming to fit, saving our customers time and money when it comes to fitting.
“Using the information formulated from our work with Trend Bible, we were able to forecast the popularity of wide planks, tactile surfaces, and natural finishes and thus create a beautiful collection that will meet the demands of our customers.
“Finding the right flooring is crucial when renovating a home as it’s often the focal point of décor. The floor defines your space. The shade of flooring sets the tone for the entire ambiance of a room; for an open and calming room, the shade of wood should be lighter. To create a cosy, warming environment, dark tones are better suited. Our work with trend bible has allowed us to expand our collections further and remain at the forefront of the flooring industry.”
