Award winning designer Natalia Miyar is commissioned to create a contemporary Christmas tablescape for Classic Week at Christie’s
Natalia Miyar has been invited by Christie’s, the international auction house in London, to use her creative flair to create a festive tablescape for the final Christie’s Lates event of the year, taking place on Monday 10th December. The event, entitled‘The Winter Bazaar’ will feature a selection of seasonal inspirations to accompany the auction house’s Classic Week, including the unveiling of Natalia’s table scheme where she will divulge her secrets to creating an inspiring tablescape in a festive entertaining workshop. The table will be on view to the public from 6pm, Monday 10th December, until the sale on 13th December.
Natalia’s fantasy tablescape will feature a selection of pieces from the important upcoming sale,’An Adventurous Spirit’, comprising the entire contents of a private home inKnightsbridge – an outstanding collection which will be sold on Thursday 13th December, the proceeds of which will benefit charitable causes. The collection includes a range of exceptional English and French furniture, 19th-century paintings as well as antiquities, Natalia as an avid collector loves to incorporate antiques alongside contemporary pieces, she says of the opportunity: “I am honoured to have been asked by Christie’s to create a table design from a selection of fabulous contents from this beautiful classical house. The idea of incorporating antique pieces alongside contemporary objects is what I love to do most within my projects so this was a brilliant opportunity to showcase how to bring the past into the present in a creatively playful way.”
For the table, Natalia handpicked her favourite pieces and has created a distinctive festive concept, celebrating both a traditional and seasonal table anchored in a London style, with a vibrant, contemporary Miami twist. Using classical European furniture and gilded candlesticks as a starting point to reference the essence of the London-based sale, Natalia has added references to her Cuban American roots with bamboo pieces and accessories featuring tropical birds. She will include a traditional floral centrepiece that celebrates an iconic London Christmas, with an inimitable Floridian flourish.
Natalia has chosen the well-proportioned FrenchOrmolu table synonymous with classical style, complemented with Russian brass mounted mahogany armchairs, selected for their comfort and elegant geometric design. Natalia selected the 1870s French gilded brass candle holders to provide elegance and a reference to the romance of London’s fine dining rooms. Murano glassware in a wine-red accent adds warm colour and eclecticism, in keeping with Natalia’s talent for tastefully bringing together different eras in a stylish way. The porcelain parrot candleholders add a sense of fun and give a nod to the international influence that runs through Natalia’s designs.Placed alongside the bamboo-edged plates, the candle-holders bring a colourful sense of the tropics into the festive tablescape.
Natalia has chosen a selection of flowers that complement the London-based tablescape yet are also reminiscent of growing up with family Christmases spent in Miami. The central table arrangement features leaves from Magnolia Grande, a staple of the US southern states and Orange Blossom flower with its unmistakable festive scent, and intended symbolism as Florida’s state flower. Dahlias add a rich jewel-tone vibrancy which is an essential component of all Natalia’s schemes.
