Luxury Leather from Granorte Joins the Inner Sanctum
Gotham Manchester, is one of the city’s newest hotels, listed as the ‘Coolest Boutique Hotel’ in the Hoteliers 100 and ‘Hotel of the Year’ by the Independent Hotel Show. Housed within a Grade II Listed building designed by famed architect Edwin Lutyens; the hotel, restaurant and bar is a decadent, slightly off-beat five-star experience with interiors designed accordingly.
Within the hotel’s 60 rooms lies the Inner Sanctum, five suites each named after a famous Mancunian and not only featuring Emperor sized beds, but also leather and cork wall tiles from Granorte. The result is a luxurious and somewhat unusual finish that looks entirely in-keeping with these dramatic rooms. Originally designed as a durable leather floor, Granorte Corium meets all the regulations for commercial use on walls, giving interior designer Oliver Redfern the chance to do something quite extraordinary:
“With such a free approach to its interior, Gotham was such a fantastic project to be involved in and I knew the Inner Sanctum, with a lack of natural light, had to offer a really indulgent and luxurious space that cosseted guests and gave the ambience of being somewhere very unique. Leather is a great material for this, but I didn’t want to confine it to conventional surfaces such as furniture.
I was delighted when I discovered that Granorte’s Decorium range of leather flooring could be used on walls. It’s such a luxurious finish it seemed a real shame to hide it under furniture or rugs. Displaying it on the wall, particularly in the scope of such a dramatic visual feast as the Inner Sanctum suites, seemed so fitting for the interior’s unmistakably quirky luxury.”
Chosen in the moc-croc of Veneto Bistro – a rich, almost-black – Granorte Corium features a 100% recycled real leather layer on top of an HDF and cork construction for glue-down use. Not only giving the beauty of real leather, Corium benefits from the acoustic and thermal absorption properties of cork recycled from wine stoppers. With an AQUA2K+ finish, Corium is simple to maintain and also comes with Microban® anti-bacterial protection.
Oliver Redfern specified 50m2 of Granorte Corium Veneto Bistro in each suite to accompany a range of other high-spec surface treatments; including a dramatic chevron carpet and huge ‘wonderwall’ screens for rooms described by the Manchester Evening News as ‘most definitely a showstopper’.
