Morgan at Clerkenwell Design Week 2017

Posted in Events, Products on 5 May, 2017

Beneath the surface of every beautiful object lies a considered structure based on mathematical proportions, such as the golden ratio. From natural structures as delicate as leaves, to manmade structures as dramatic as The Shard, the underlying structure is what pushes these forms towards ‘perfection’. Morgan bases its assessment of whether a person or design is beautiful on this geometry. Therefore, when creating art, products or architecture, this structure is the first element of consideration.

During Clerkenwell Design Week, Morgan will be stripping back and focusing on this underlying geometrical structure. By removing the distraction of colour and focusing on muted tones, the eye will be able to focus on the shape and texture of the forms beneath.

Surface: talk by artist Mark McClure

The Morgan showroom will be transformed into a neutral geometrical haven. British artist Mark McClure will present his new art installation just completed for our showroom. Exploring the theme of structure and our interaction with the built environment, Mark has transformed our main showroom wall into a geometrical relief piece. Wooden mosaic pieces will also be displayed around the showroom.

Product Launch Party & Live Jazz

Celebrate the launch of our new products with Wild Card Brewery beers, canapés, pick and mix and a live Jazz Trio. Come along to see new products, have a drink and meet the artist, Mark McClure.

Making Space: talk by architect Chris Eckersley

From Florence to France, Brunelleschi to Le Corbusier, architect Chris Eckersley will give a talk on how he explores proportions and dimensions through the art of sketching. Morgan will be exhibiting Eckersley’s intricate architectural sketches, inspired by Le Corbusier buildings and The Modular in our showroom throughout the week.

Making on a Macro Scale: talk by Stage One

Join the Stage One team of Creative Engineers for a talk on turning design intent into reality – a decade of pavilions. Pork Pies and Yorkshire Ale in abundance!

Lighting Installation

Amongst the art, there will be a Delta Light installation floating across the space, made up of a number of Metronome lights, each unique in their slight variation. We will also be featuring Another Studio’s Timber Tailor Ruffle pendant lights, which were inspired by the craft of tailoring, adapting pattern-cutting techniques in order to create elegant and seamless wood veneer structures.

Product Launches

Last but not least, CDW is Morgan’s main product launch event of the year.

Launching two new chair collections, designed by Katerina Zachariades, Morgan will be exhibiting its expertise in timber craftsmanship. A combination of elegance and comfort, the new Havana and Goodwood will both contrast and complement the current collections. Morgan will also be showcasing the extensive modular Manhattan collection, in a configuration that reflects its original inspiration – the Manhattan skyline. Upholstered in muted tones, of varying textures, a combination of high back, low back and booth modules will be featured.
