PORCELANOSA’s K-Life in Hotel Puerta América

Posted in Products on 17 April, 2020

For all architecture and design enthusiasts, Hotel Puerta América in Madrid is a point of reference, a place of pilgrimage which awakens the senses. With 13 floors, and the intention of creating a sense of connection through utilising the shared space as a canvas, some of the best designers and architects of this century have given free rein to their imagination, creating spaces with very distinctive identity and personality.

Rita Gasalla and her company Galöw were responsible for remodelling the lobby, which incorporates the revolutionary compact mineral from PORCELANOSA Group, KRION™ K-Life, the material which purifies the air.

With K-Life, liquids and dirt can be cleaned from the surface easily and quickly. It is capable of completely removing chemicals that encounter the material because, when K-Life is in contact with any type of light, the properties of this material are activated through a process of photocatalysis, which initiates self-cleaning and the purifying of the air.

Utilising the concept of photocatalysis, K-Life improves air quality by neutralising nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide and volatile organic compounds. This process uses energy from light, combined with elements in the K-Life material to act as a catalyst producing the cleansing effect.

As well as Rita Gasalla and Galöw, you can find the design and artistic expression of Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, David Chipperfield, Plasma Studio, Victorio & Lucchino, Marc Newson, Ron Arad, Kathrin Findlay, Richard Gluckman, Arata Isozaki, Javier Mariscal and Fernando Salas and Jean Nouvel.

Hotel Puerta América is one of the first projects in which K-Life has been incorporated into a reception with a high volume of clients and visitors who will benefit from the qualities of K-Life. The lobby area has been transformed into a monolithic piece taking up three sides of the reception, stretching 3.35 metres to the ceiling and extending 27 metres to the wall covering containing a videowall. The countertop and front of the cabinets in the reception are also made with KRION™.
