VIBRANT ART INSTALLATION UNVEILED IN MORGAN’S LONDON SHOWROOM
This week, Morgan, contract furniture designer and manufacturer, welcomed artists, interior designers, visionaries and other creative minds to a special viewing of a new art installation by David Shillinglaw at their Clerkenwell showroom. Attended by more than one hundred guests, the evening’s high energy was fitting for the exuberant composition.
Celebrating the spirit of collaboration and imagination, Morgan has been sharing its showroom with artists since opening in 2014, transforming the interior’s blank walls into thought provoking galleries and colourful canvasses.
Entitled ‘Alive in the Human Hive’, the new installation is a dynamic, large scale mural alongside a selection of David’s recent artworks.
David brings his energetic imagery to the Clerkenwell showroom for a second time, ever growing his relationship with Morgan. Since graduating from Central Saint Martins 17 years ago, he has been commissioned by Converse, The Dulwich Picture House and agnès b.
Beyond the UK, he has exhibited in galleries from Japan and China to The Gambia and Turkey. Evading categorisation, David’s work includes small handmade books, paintings, album covers and set design.
Describing his latest work, David says: “We all suffer and celebrate: appetites and desires, fears and misfortunes. How can I paint a picture of the world? The local and global landscape. Planet Earth is a place so strange, so full of beauty and wonder, mistakes and confusion. This confusion is very important to me, it feeds me and my work.”
Katerina Zachariades, Morgan’s design director, comments: “Showrooms have so much potential beyond simply displaying products; they can beautifully represent a brand’s values in a variety of ways. At Morgan, we value the creative spirit and believe in supporting artists. This manifests on our showroom walls, in our collaborative furniture collections and in a range of events we host throughout the year, including seminars and panel discussions.”
David’s artwork will be on display throughout Clerkenwell Design Week, providing an eye-catching backdrop to an exciting series of events and product launches.
