Celebrating Amsterdam’s Heritage at The Pulitzer

Jacu Strauss, Creative Director of Lore Group, has made some exciting additions to the five-star Pulitzer hotel which have just been revealed, including two new suites below (both of which celebrate Amsterdam’s heritage) and the new Beauty House.

The Floral Suite
A love letter to the city’s longstanding history of flowers, the romantic Flower Collector’s Suite opened in March 2024, just in time for the city’s iconic Tulip season. The two-room suite reimagines a 19th-century tulip-trader’s home; blending traditional Dutch designs, horticultural artwork, and bespoke furniture, to make for a stay equally relaxing as it is botanically inspiring.

Featuring a spacious and impressive hallway entrance, a double bedroom, an elegant walk-through bathroom filled with D.S. and Durga amenities, plus an expansive, separate living space with freshly arranged tulips, the suite is the perfect space to enjoy canal-side views with floods of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling window. The living room incorporates nods to the art of floristry throughout; the bright pink rug is an ode to fallen petals, the mini bar showcases metalwork inspired by the greenhouses at the Dutch botanical Gardens and exclusive hand-pressed floral titles have been created by an artisan in France, each one of the 60, unique. Blended white tones are the favoured palette in the space to highlight that the guest residing is the ‘brightest flower in the room’. The bedroom is a juxtaposition of the light living space opposite and columns of framed flower paintings stream the deep green walls – Strauss was inspired by an arrangement in the Royal Academy during the late Victorian era. Marking the moment, European designer Zoe de Givenchy has created a spectacular, bespoke flower-inspired tableware collection in collaboration with the hotel which will launch in June. A 20-minute walk from Amsterdam’s famed flower market, the Flower Collector’s Suite presents an intimate base from which to explore the city while in its full bloom, and beyond.

The Beauty House
Opened Spring 2024, The Beauty House by Pulitzer Amsterdam opened this spring as a pioneering beauty and wellness destination located in a charming canal house in Amsterdam’s Nine Streets area. It provides a unique, high-end experience for both hotel guests and local residents. Seamlessly integrating luxury hospitality with personalised beauty treatments across three distinct floors, it offers services such as hair styling, manicures, pedicures, facials, and massages and features exclusive products such as: Dutch Keune, BloomEffects, and 111SKIN.

The Beauty House by Pulitzer Amsterdam

The Beauty House is set within the Pulitzer hotel – a 400-year-old, narrow Dutch canal-house. Due to its limited width, the team had to arrange the service areas of The Beauty House across three levels, which entailed excavating the ground to create a full lower level for the treatment room. Created by Lore Group’s Creative Director, Jacu Strauss, the design is a fusion of warm and neutral colours and materials visible throughout the three floors, with the ‘touches’ of the striking red alluding to vintage Hollywood red lipstick.

The Porcelain Suite
The Porcelain Collector’s Suite completes the series with a journey through centuries. Inspired by the previous inhabitant’s passion for collecting, the two-room, canal-side suite pays tribute with an eclectic display of locally-sourced porcelain artistry. Marrying the contours of antique Delftware with modern interpretations of traditional porcelain, the suite features delicate tableware, artistic fine vases and unusual pottery pieces.

The Merchant Suite
This three bedroom suite, filled with hand-selected treasures, curated vintage artworks and modern design classics, evokes the Golden Age of Amsterdam. The Pulitzer’s grandest suite sits within one of the finest examples of Dutch architecture and perfectly evokes the city’s eclectic style and enduring spirit of adventure.

The Merchant Suite incorporates an eclectic array of antique wonders, set against calming tones. Three bedrooms and bathrooms sit alongside a well-equipped kitchenette, giving you plenty of space and flexibility.
