The Domaine de Verchant, Montpellier, France

Posted in Projects on 12 December, 2016

Studio March Hertrich & Nicolas Adnet has renovated and extended the Domaine de Verchant in the south of France…

Nestled among the vinyards of Montepellier, Studio March Hertrich & Nicolas Adnet were charged with the task of transforming and extending the premises of the sumptuous Domaine de Verchant, the region’s only five-starred establishment belonging to the Relais & Chateaux collection.

Briefed to construct ‘a beach amongst the vines’, the studio created an impeccable outdoor swimming and dining area, designed to merge seamlessly into the aesthetic of its surroundings. Featuring a contemporary glass structure and uplifting summer tones, ‘The Beach by Verchant’ exudes the vibrant warmth of Provence.

The Studio has considered each element to integrate harmoniously into the surrounding Mediterranean landscape of the stunning wine estate. The architects aimed to create a balance between the rhythmic pattern of the vines and the architecture of the buildings.

In refection of the resolutely ‘Provence’ ambiance and location of the Domaine, the Studio called upon local artisans to be involved in the renovation and extension of the spa. Through this collaboration, they restored the ancient stonewalls of the existing structure and designed vast basins in thick block of local stones.

The two interior designers also designed a new sauna, a hammam, luxurious changing rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness studio and treatment rooms overlooking private zen gardens.

The warm spirit of the Domaine was successfully conversed with an added contemporary touch by juxtaposing materials such as metal and glass against the existing natural stonewalls.

This project was created in collaboration with Pascal Megias, a local architect and member of the Architectes des Batiments de France.
