EDEN ROCK ST BARTHS

Posted in News, Projects on 17 April, 2020

Eden Rock St Barths, one of the most iconic hotels in the Caribbean, reopened at the end of last year following an extensive two-year renovation. The hotel, which forms part of the prestigious Oetker Collection, has revealed a complete transformation and restructure including new rooms and suites, a new bar and restaurant and spa concept.

Constantly inspired by the island of St Barths, owner Jane Matthews has been at the helm of the Eden Rock Design Group which includes the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio London – marking its first project in the Caribbean – and Architectonik St Barths. Together, the group has redesigned and refurbished the entire property with a fresh look and feel, while preserving the heritage and incomparable atmosphere for which Eden Rock St Barths is loved.

All rooms, suites and villas throughout the hotel have undergone a complete transformation. Three new rooms with sea views have been built on top of the Sand Bar area, while three additional suites – two of which with private swimming pools – have been built on the Rock. Located directly on the beach, the hotel’s villas have also been remodeled with accommodation now comprising six suites in Villa Rockstar, three suites in Villa Frangipani and three equally appointed suites in the brilliant newly designed Villa Nina by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio London.
Villa Nina, which also features a swimming pool and hot tub, large lounge and dining area and beautiful outdoor veranda, imbues a relaxed and tropical aesthetic offering guests their own slice of Caribbean living. Decorated in hues of pale pink and green with touches of yellow, the villa also features artwork by local artists. Patterned fabrics are offset by sleek, contemporary furniture and statement chandeliers, dappling the room in soft, golden light. An onyx-topped counter with bar stools, as well as an additional outdoor dining area, makes Villa Nina the perfect space for hosting.

The Sand Bar continues to be at the culinary heart of the hotel and the menu remains in the hands of Jean-Georges Vongerichten, inspired by ABC & Jojo restaurants and ABCV concept – a New York favourite for healthy eating widely appreciated by foodies. It also welcomes the new Rémy Salon and Bar, which has been named after Eden Rock’s original owner, paying tribute to his pioneering spirit and offering an ideal combination of laidback beach style and British-colonial character.

Inspired by effortless English colonial style, the Sand Bar is cocooned by verdant planting with views out onto the Caribbean ocean and surrounding landscape. Located off the bar is a new library, where guests can sit back and read books. Soft lighting creates a relaxing ambience. Walking through The Sand Bar, guests enter the super-stylish and expanded Eden Being Boutique, stocked with the latest designs and fashion. A new Eden Rock Beach Bar has also been added and features a new sun deck with shaded loungers directly on the beach. The hotel’s brand-new music curator’s playlist captures Eden Rock’s unique island vibe.

The brilliant and brand-new Eden Spa takes up residence inside the top of the Rock, where the legend began. The new yacht-on-land themed sitting room and three discreet wellness cabins invite guests to enjoy an unforgettable Caribbean spa journey. In partnership with acclaimed local brand Ligne St Barth, an extensive treatment menu is available using natural and sundrenched products. All Ligne St Barth products are created on island using ingredients of natural origin including frangipani flower, melon, sugar cane and mango butter. Three beach cabanas are also available.

Owner Jane Matthews has also expanded her art collection within the property. Faithful to its reputation, Eden Rock St Barths continues its 20-year commitment towards exhibiting art and introducing artists, and its long- term collaboration with the New York Academy of Art’s Graduate School of Art. In keeping with Oetker Collection’s appreciation and support of the arts, the Eden Rock Gallery, located at the iconic hotel’s beach, has previously showcased work from Richard Prince and Kaws, Galerie Perrotin, Salvador Dali, Kiki Kausche, Will Cotton and Piotr Uklanski. Jane sought to keep the original informal and amiable family atmosphere unchanged whilst complementing the interiors with vibrant art and loads of handpicked books.

“Our family has chosen the option to refurbish and renovate throughout Eden Rock St Barths. We continue to fix our sights on being world class and remaining one of the best hotels in the world. In this ambition, we are so thankful to belong on this fantastic island. There is nowhere else like it in the world. We are excited by the fresh new and relaxed-beach design style and diverse colour schemes created and used now throughout the property,” says Jane.

The familiar members of the dedicated hotel team are joined by talented new Eden Rockers, readier than ever to provide world-class service of renown. Jane continues: “Our guest friends have continued throughout the close down to show heartwarming support and we are grateful for their loyalty and we thank them warmly. Reservations have been encouraging and we are so pleased to welcome back all our clients, guests and friends to their home-from-home in the heart of the island of St Barths.”

With its spectacular location in St Jean Bay, Eden Rock St Barths has been the byword for one-of-a-kind hospitality ever since mercurial French Caribbean aviator adventurer and occasional treasure-seeker Rémy de Haenen first welcomed guests to his Eden Rock home on the ocean during the 1950s. The place quickly established itself as the preferred private and discreet bolt-hole of many glamourous Hollywood characters who quickly became friends of St Barths. A sense of safety, freedom, style and casual elegance was established which continues to this day and is strengthened now with the regular welcoming of very many current and similarly interesting and brilliant celebrity guests and friends of modern times.

Fabrice Moizan, General Manager, says: “The remaking of Eden Rock St Barths has been an incredible adventure and a wonderfully rewardingexperience on so many levels. It really was a team effort and we are immensely grateful to our brilliant group of collaborators and colleagues who worked with us endlessly to reach this milestone. We also thank our shareholders for the fantastic opportunity to rethink and redesign every detail in order to create a brand-new Eden Rock but with the same deep- set values and attention paid to honouring our heritage.”
