Elysium Hotel, Paphos, Cyprus
World-renowned architecture and interior design firm Wilson Associates is proud to unveil the recently renovated Elysium Hotel in Cyprus. Situated on the beach in the historical heartland of the ancient city of Paphos — next to the historical site of the Tombs of the Kings — Elysium Hotel consists of 250 rooms and suites designed to cater to couples, families, and business travellers.
Wilson Associates reimagined the Deluxe Bedrooms, Junior Suites, Lobby and several F&B spaces with design elements and interiors that incorporate the island’s history and heritage. The firm’s Los Angeles studio led the design efforts, creating a sense of place, drawing inspiration from the natural surroundings found in Cyprus and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea from the city.
Embracing Elysium Hotel’s original architecture, Wilson Associates thoughtfully designed around the property’s palatial style which was influenced by the Byzantine era. The existing architectural elements of the lobby, for example, are now enhanced with a blend of local stone, marble and timber; warm muted colours with pops of blues and fuchsia tones reflective of the sea and flowering foliage; decorative features such as mosaics, arches and columns; and luxurious contemporary furniture further enriching the palatial interior.
“The cultural references of its architecture evoke the rich history of Cyprus and combine elements from Greek, Roman, Medieval and Venetian times,” said Amy Jakubowski, Managing Director & Design Director of Wilson Associates’ Los Angeles studio. “Guests can enjoy a relaxing and stimulating stay in a peaceful and secluded environment.”
The carefully crafted Deluxe Bedrooms lead guests on a journey through Cyprus’ rich history with both hard and soft furnishings complemented by warm woods and marble accents dressing the space. The chosen colour palette reflects the island’s sunset with crimson, pastel peach, and gold setting the Mediterranean mood. The multi-purpose Junior Suites, comprised of one or two bedrooms, deliver an exclusive holiday experience. The new millwork and painted wood panelled ceiling in soft grey and dark walnut hues are adorned with maroon and apricot tones set against a calming pearl backdrop.
Dining is a key element of the Elysium experience. Nestled at the end of a grand Venetian corridor framed by palatial arches, Epicurean—the hotel’s gourmet buffet experience, showcases a harmonious colour palette of olive green and Murano glass chandeliers. From May to October, Epicurean’s expansive chic French doors open up onto the eatery’s terrace, which is framed by string lights and lush greenery. Also showcasing bright and cheerful interiors, Lemonia Piazza—an all-day dining restaurant, offers seating indoors as well as outside on the terrace. Lastly, Cafe Occidental, a chic, contemporary and cosmopolitan dining option is reminiscent of a Parisian patisserie, complete with a pastry display.
