THE NEW ANDAZ HOTEL OPENS IN NEW DELHI DESIGNED BY VIRGILE AND PARTNERS

Posted in Projects on 11 May, 2017

Global in scale while local in perspective, Andaz hotels – the innovative Hyatt owned brand- weave the sights, sounds and tastes of their surroundings into each property for an experience that truly immerses guests in the eclectic culture of each local destination. Through personalized, unscripted service, Andaz objective is to create a barrier-free environment where guests are encouraged to explore their personal sense of style and become inspired by the spirit of the culture around them.

The latest realisation of these brand objectives is the Andaz Hotel in New Delhi designed by London based interior design agency Virgile and Partners, which has recently opened with a partial inventory of its residential-style 401 guestrooms, including 45 suites and public areas, capturing the exciting spirit of the city whilst conveying a new and fresh perspective.

The hotel plans to open in the coming months the awaited Hong Kong Club, a destination restaurant, bar and night club and one of its main attractions, as well as 129 serviced apartments, also designed by Virgile + Partners.

Guests and visitors can now experience the interconnecting rooms of the innovative and informal AnnaMaya food hall, the communal spirit and social interaction at the Juniper Bar, the creative meeting and working spaces of the Studios, the spectacular multi-function spaces, as well as the unconventional but welcoming lobby and its integration with the hotel central core external landscaped courtyard.

The key aim of the design agency was to deconstruct the multiple cultural imagery of India and then select and integrate traditional elements, colours and textures into a contemporary state-of-the-art design scheme, inspired by the unique craftsmanship and cultural transformation of India. This ambitious design idea had to respond primarily to two objectives: firstly, to reinvent and give new life to the now trite boutique hotel formula, but also to achieve this avoiding the clichés generally exploited in Indian commercial and residential interiors, particularly in the hospitality sector.

The inventive approach to the hotel interior design is always fresh, spacious, defined and transformed by light, using bright accent colours, textures and materiality as highlights. This overall shell concept is dramatically punctuated by interesting design insertions, unusual furniture and extraordinary curated showpieces of new Indian contemporary artists, contributing to create an overall signature Andaz style that helps defining every single area of the hotel.

Cultural roots and visual references to India are part of the scheme in all public spaces as well as in the elegant minimal design approach taken by Virgile + Partners scheme but there are always given a new significance by presenting them in a new and understated context.

Nothing about Andaz should be formulaic and guestrooms and suites have been conceived as calm, personal spaces, tailored to create a unique and original bespoke environment, where the guest can have an input in how the room functions. It is designed to make the guest feel protected from the vibrant activity of Delhi integrating subtle traditional touches together with an original work of art in each room acting as a reminder of its cultural location.

The Andaz project was the result of an effective team collaboration, which included Bauer Latoza Studio in the building architecture, local implementation architectural firm SWBI, Crackwell in the external landscaping and Rajeev Sethi as art consultant.
