LONDON DESIGN WEEK 2020 8th-13th March

It’s an exciting time to be at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour. From 8 – 13 March, London Design Week 2020 will bring together masters of design, creating an unmissable dialogue between exhibitors and visitors in an arena that is as inspiring as it is influential.

Across six days, London Design Week 2020 at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour will present new-season launches and share ideas and expertise on what it takes to be the best of the best. 120 showrooms and 600 international brands will unite to present a compelling vision of interior design excellence.

DESIGN EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Reflecting a commitment to creativity and connection, a curated programme of more than 100 events will include workshops, talks, artisan demonstrations and discovery tours that dig deeper inside the stories behind the designs and provide opportunities to meet the people who shaped them. On the main stage, eminent names including Olga Polizzi and Beata Heuman will share their experiences at the acclaimed Conversations in Design series, while Grow Your Business talks will be aimed at those who want to take the next steps. Memorable installations and specially commissioned places to eat and drink will bring plenty of visual inspiration and showcase current design directions.

NEW COLLECTIONS

New collections for spring speak of a confident, thoughtful approach: exquisite materials, couture detailing and the dramatic use of colour, pattern and texture; all celebrating the importance of provenance, skill, craftsmanship and a move towards informed choices.

LONDON DESIGN WEEK 2020 HOUSE GUESTS

Adding another layer to the offering will be the magnificent Design Avenue which will play host to a raft of house guests, only in situ for the duration of the show. They will bring fresh perspectives and even more ways for visitors to encounter world-class talent.

Every year, Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour enriches the programme, broadening insights and specialist knowledge for both professionals and design enthusiasts to enjoy. A vital industry hub with an international standing, it is recognised as an authoritative voice of interior decoration.

THE EVENTS PROGRAMME

Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour has curated a programme of more than 100 events that will include workshops, talks, artisan demonstrations and discovery tours that dig deeper inside the stories behind the designs and provide opportunities to meet the people who shaped them.

CONVERSATIONS IN DESIGN

The all-star series brings world renowned speakers to the main stage. International talent includes Olga Polizzi; design director of Rocco Forte hotels and renowned interior designers Beata Heuman, Rita Konig, Martin Hulbert and Jay Grierson. Joining panel discussions will be leading interior designers including Tom Bartlett of Waldo Works, Sheena Murphy of Nune, Samantha Todhunter, Elnaz Namaki, Emma Pocock of Turner Pocock and Emily Todhunter of Todhunter Earle, alongside Tatjana von Stein from Sella Concepts. CONVERSATIONS IN DESIGN: A NEW VISION: WHAT DOES THE DIGITAL ERA MEAN FOR INTERIOR DESIGN? TALK

Thursday, 12 March, 11.30am – 12.30pm

The digital age has transformed the lives of interior designers, creating new ways for them to imagine and communicate their vision for living. Three leading designers – Emma Pocock, co-founder of Turner Pocock, Elnaz Namaki, founder of her eponymous studio and Sheena Murphy, founder of Nune – share how the growth of social media and design apps have changed interiors. The discussion will explore how the digital landscape has democratised the design process, allowing everyone to share in the creativity, and ask whether, at the dawn of a new decade, there will be even more change to the way our homes are designed and seen. CONVERSATIONS IN DESIGN: HOME AND AWAY

Credited with popularising the boutique escape, James Lohan, founder of Mr & Mrs Smith and his sister, interior designer Hannah Lohan, explore the growing influence of hotel trends on our own homes. The dynamic pair talk to interiors editor Carole Annett about what makes guests fall in love with a particular place – from  hotel city breaks to beach resorts, safari camps and wellness retreats – and predict what’s next when it comes to the crossover between where we live, and where we stay. ACCESS ALL AREAS

This year’s Access All Areas events programme, taking place in the showrooms, is the beating heart of the show, and is as diverse as it is insightful. The series will offer design enthusiasts the chance to meet leading designers such as Paolo Moschino, Lucinda Sandford, Nina Campbell and Selina McCabe of Winch Designs, alongside house guest Flora Soames, all of whom will share expertise and knowledge.  Visitors will also have the chance to visit the GP & J Baker showroom where Emma Sims Hilditch, founder and creative director of luxury interior design company Sims Hilditch, will have designed a specially curated space within the showroom.

Join Cole & Son’s design director, Carley Bean, for an exclusive presentation of the new collection, Seville. Carley delves into the inspiration behind the collection and the unique techniques used for each design. Experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the streets of Seville.

ACCESS ALL AREAS: EXPLORING THE DESIRE TO CREATE A CALMING SPACE

In celebration of Scene, Villa Nova’s latest fabric and wallcovering collection, join the brand’s design director Hayley McAfee and interior and lifestyle writer Lisa Dawson for tea and cake, and enjoy a discussion on why interiors are increasingly becoming restful retreat.

ACCESS ALL AREAS: SLEEP THERAPY

Wednesday 11 March, 3.30pm

Jensen Beds, Third Floor, Design Centre East

Sleep therapist and transformational coach Risa Gabrielle will be using her extensive knowledge to share the tools and techniques we need to switch off and get a better night’s rest. Her approach is “empowering, practical and intuitive – most of all, it’s about long lasting solutions over quick fixes” and she will be on hand to answer any sleep-related questions afterwar.

ACCESS ALL AREAS: DISCOVER TOKYO BLUE BY MOOOI X ARTE

Discover Tokyo Blue, the latest collaboration between Moooi and Arte. Experience the new wallcovering collection while on a Japanese whisky tasting journey: discover your favourites and learn to distinguish the flavours while experiencing the new wallcovering collection, which takes its inspiration from Japanese nature and culture.
